We pulled up to HomeTrust Park at 6:30 on a Saturday morning in late September. It was still dark, and it was the first morning that actually felt like fall. You could see your breath a little.
By 7:00, the cart was set up in the ballpark's pavilion, espresso was dialed in, and Pure Barre Asheville members were starting to walk in with their mats. They were about to take a barre class on the outfield of a baseball stadium, and we got to be the ones waiting for them when it was over.
It's one of our favorite mornings we've had this year.
A Workout on the Outfield
The event was a ticketed outdoor class led by Pure Barre Asheville, hosted on the field at HomeTrust Park. About two dozen people signed up. Some were longtime members, some were trying barre for the first time, and a few came with friends who had talked them into it.
Class ran from 7:30 to 8:30. We served complimentary drinks from the moment people arrived until well after the last stretch: lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos, and a couple of fall flavors like pumpkin spice and honey cinnamon.
Hot drinks on a cold morning are an easy win. But what stuck with us was what happened after class.
Nobody Rushed Off
Usually when a workout ends, people grab their things and head out. They've got errands, kids, the rest of their Saturday.
That's not what happened here. People came off the field, walked over to the pavilion, ordered something warm, and stayed. They stood around the cart and talked. They introduced themselves to the folks they'd just spent an hour sweating next to. Newer people got pulled into conversations with the regulars.
You could tell right away that Pure Barre Asheville has a real community. The members were friendly and easy to talk to, and they clearly cared about each other. They made our job easy. We just gave them a place to keep the morning going.
Carlie, who organized the event, put it better than we could in a note afterward: our coffee "added a cozy feel to our chilly morning event and gave us an excuse to stick around and connect further."
An excuse to stick around. That's the whole idea behind what we do.
Why a Coffee Cart Works at Fitness Events
Fitness events have a built-in problem. Everyone shows up, works hard, and then the event just ends. There's no natural moment to connect afterward, so the community part of the event, which is usually the point, gets cut short.
A coffee cart fixes that. Here's what we've seen it do:
It gives the event a second half. The workout brings people in. The coffee keeps them there long enough to actually talk.
It warms people up on outdoor mornings. Early classes and race mornings are cold. A hot drink before or after makes the whole thing more comfortable.
It helps new people feel welcome. Standing in line for a latte is a low-pressure way to meet someone, especially if it's your first class.
It feels like a reward. After a hard workout, a handcrafted drink feels earned, and people remember who gave it to them.
It works for every guest. Not everyone drinks coffee, so we also serve chai, tea, and hot chocolate, along with milk alternatives.
For studios, gyms, run clubs, and wellness brands, that time after class is where the community gets built, and where people decide whether they're coming back.
The Same Thing Happens at Corporate Events
The pattern is the same.
A team workout, a wellness day, a staff appreciation morning, an offsite retreat: the planned part of the day matters, but the moments people remember are usually the in-between ones. The conversation before a meeting starts. The coworker from another department you finally got to know.
A coffee cart gives people somewhere to go and something to do while those moments happen. It's a small thing, but it changes how a room, or a ballpark, feels.
If your company is planning a wellness event, a team-building morning, or anything where you want people to connect instead of scattering, we'd love to help. You can read more about our corporate coffee cart catering, or see why a coffee cart belongs at your corporate event.
Thank You, Pure Barre Asheville
Our name comes from the verse about a cord of three strands not being easily broken. We believe people are stronger together, and we got to watch that on Saturday morning: a group of people who showed up for each other at 7 a.m. in the cold.
Thank you to Hannah and the whole Pure Barre Asheville community for welcoming us, and to Carlie for bringing it all together. We'd gladly do it again.
